The Windows 10 blackout related to the CrowdStrike software is impacting a wide range of services and areas all over the world. The security company seems to be working on a way round the problem – which seems to have originated from a faulty update – and the situation should return to normal soon.
However, what can be done to get around the infamous Windows blue screen that signals the existence of errors (whether hardware or software)? The BFMTV Tech website has a suggestion, which involves starting your computer in safe mode.
Start Windows and press the F4 key during the boot process; go to the menu on the integrated hard drive labelled ‘C:’; go to ‘C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike’ and, in the folder labelled ‘CrowdStrike’, delete the file that starts with ‘C-00000291’ and ends with ‘.sys’; restart the computer.
Please note that for this method to work, the user must have administrator rights.
