Helium Health, the Startup That Wants to “Modernize” Health Systems in Africa

Founded in 2016 in Nigeria, Helium Health instantly takes hospitals and clinics digital with its flagship product Electronic Medical Records/Hospital Management Information System (EMR/HMIS), the most widely used solution in West Africa with over 300 healthcare providers and over 5,000 healthcare professionals already using its technology in Nigeria, Senegal and Ghana.

In May 2020 a $10 million Series A funding round increased interest to expand the company, and it is now moving into East Africa with a Kenyan launch in partnership with three local vendors, including Philips Healthcare Technologies.

“We have been planning to expand into Kenya’s thriving healthcare technology sector since last year, so we are very excited to be getting underway in 2021, already working with three new local partners to help improve efficiency and provide better service to patients. We believe there is a great opportunity to leverage cutting-edge technology to help improve the way health data is collected and managed across Africa, so partnering with similar healthcare providers and facilities in Kenya is a great fit for us,” said Tito Ovia, co-founder of Helium Health.
