Apple’s New iPad Pro May Have Wireless Charging and Rear Glass

Apple will be working on a new version of the iPad Pro with wireless charging, according to Bloomberg. To accommodate the technology, Apple is expected to change the new models to have a glass back, instead of the aluminum that every iPad released so far features.

The tech company is, according to the agency, testing a magnetic charging system for the new iPad Pro, similar to the MagSafe connector launched with the iPhone 12 line of phones last year.

Apple may also include a type of reverse wireless charging in the new iPad Pro, which would also allow the iPad to serve as a wireless charging point.

Right now, the new M1 iPad Pro with Mini LED display has just been released, and this wireless charging model won’t be ready until next year. However, Bloomberg also mentions that a redesigned iPad Mini will be released in 2021 with narrower screen slots.

It is unclear whether it will switch to Face ID like the iPad Pro or Touch ID on the ‘on/off’ button like the iPad Air, the document only mentions that “removing the ‘home’ button has also been tested.”

In addition to the new iPad Mini, the Cupertino, California-based company is also planning to release a slimmer version of the 10.2-inch iPad. Both products are expected to be released later this year.

The iPad has become an increasingly important part of Apple’s portfolio, especially over the past year as people looked for new ways to work, study and play at home during Covid-19 confinements.
