WhatsApp Will Allow you to Save Conversations More Securely

WhatsApp has announced that users who ‘back up’ their conversations to the cloud will be able to do so with encryption, on both Android and iOS.

Note that although messages exchanged on WhatsApp had encryption, ‘backups’ to Google Drive (on Android) and iCloud (on iOS) did not enjoy this layer of security.

To enjoy encrypted ‘backups’ you will have to activate the option in the ‘Settings’, more precisely in the area dedicated to ‘Conversations’. The option can be found in the ‘Backup of conversations’ zone.

WhatsApp has made it clear that the rollout of this new feature will be done in a gradual manner, so not all Android and iOS users will receive it at the same time.
