According to new research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US, those who have been given both doses of the covid-19 vaccine not only do not carry the virus, but also pose an extremely reduced risk of infection.
The doses to be administered are those produced by Pfizer in conjunction with BioNTech, and by Moderna.
According to Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, the data on which these conclusions are based is not just clinical trials, but data gathered from the real world.
“We are vaccinating so rapidly that our CDC data suggests that vaccinated people do not carry the virus and do not get sick.”
Given the joviality associated with vaccines and the speed with which they were developed compared to others, the news is indeed good.
After all, the CDC has been urging people to exercise caution so as not to rule out masking and social distancing.
Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna extremely effective
The study looked at 3,950 people, ranging from healthcare professionals, first responders and other workers with risky professions, in eight US locations over a 13-week period.
After the second dose, the risk of infection dropped by 90 percent.
As Walensky explained, the study reinforces the importance of protection and shows that governmental and grassroots efforts are paying off.
In addition, he says the results “should offer hope to the millions of Americans who receive the vaccine every day, and to those who will have the opportunity to be vaccinated in the coming weeks.
