Fifteen startups, selected at national level, exposed yesterday green business ideas to solve local and global environmental problems.
The presentation, made in a virtual format, is part of the biggest worldwide competition of its kind called Climate Launchpad.
The event, which is in its third edition in the country, aims to reduce the negative impact of climate change through technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
The startups Black Brick, Ecological Fire wood Production, Crimas Agroforest, Green Events, Zero Waste Moz, Ephula, Zambi Changers, Natura, Mais Eco, Karingana Textiles, Baby D Cosmetics, Xiphefu Digital Light, CO2 Group, Hydro Solution Lda.
The projects fall under the categories of adaptation and resilience, circular economy, clean energy, food systems, sustainable mobility and urban solutions.
The creators of the fifteen projects selected for this phase previously underwent an intensive training period to refine their business ideas, and they presented their projects to a jury team that elected the three startups with the greatest potential.
According to the organisers, the three projects selected will be the country’s representatives at the regional final of the event, to be held in the city of Maputo at the end of this month.
The regional phase will be followed by the global final of the Climate Launchpad, in which the participants will compete for a prize money of 10 thousand euros (about 750 thousand meticais) and access to Climate Kic, the main European green business incubator.
The Climate Launchpad is an initiative of EIT Climate KIC, the European Union’s innovation programme for climate change, and in Mozambique is driven by Idea Lab, with the support of the Embassy of Ireland, Ministry of Land (MTA), Whatana Investments, Carlos Morgado Foundation, Gaia Consulting and Mozambican Renewable Energy Association (AMER).
The initiative is carried out on a global scale, currently integrating more than 60 countries and has already contributed to the implementation of more than three thousand green business ideas.
