Government Supports 13 Audiovisual and Film Projects With Fund of About $100,000

At least 13 initiatives in the fields of audiovisual and film will receive funding in the country through a global fund of 6.5 million meticais (approximately $101,000), the Government announced on Tuesday, July 1, as reported by Lusa.

The information was released by the National Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries (INICC), an agency under the Ministry of Education and Culture, which announced the results of the national competition for the selection of artistic and cultural projects, as part of the second edition of the Audiovisual and Film Support Fund.

Among the selected projects are four short film productions and four music video productions. In the documentary category, two initiatives were approved, in addition to one project focused on theatre production and performance and two film screening projects.

The 6.5 million metical fund (about $101,000) was officially announced on October 16, 2024, in a ceremony presided over by the then Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, in Maputo.

“The launch and provision of 6.5 million meticais for this second edition is a fact we are very proud of,” stated the minister at the time, highlighting the importance of the support for the development of national culture.

According to Eldevina Materula, this edition of the fund aims to reach all regions of the country, with a focus on promoting new talents—such as first-time filmmakers and music video production—as well as the distribution and exhibition of audiovisual content both nationally and internationally.

The first edition of this competition took place in 2020, with five million meticais (around $77,700) made available to also finance and boost the audiovisual and film sector in the country.

INICC emphasized that this initiative not only aims to encourage artistic creativity, but also to strengthen the presence and appreciation of Mozambican culture in international art and film circuits.
