Government Participates in the 9th TICAD Conference in Japan

The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, will participate from this Wednesday (August 20) in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), which will take place in the Japanese city of Yokohama from August 20 to 22.

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, the head of state’s participation follows an invitation extended by the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba.

Under the theme “Co-creating Innovative Solutions with Africa,” TICAD 9 will focus on the central issue of “People, Planet, and Prosperity in a Changing World,” bringing together African heads of state and government, representatives of international organizations, business leaders, and civil society leaders.

According to the document, on the sidelines of the conference, Daniel Chapo is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, representatives of the Japanese government and parliament, as well as executives from Japanese companies with interests in Mozambique. The head of state will also meet with the Mozambican community residing in Japan.

The event will also include participation from senior officials of the United Nations, the World Bank, and other multilateral institutions, as well as executives from Japanese and African companies. The agenda includes seminars, symposia, and business exhibitions, where innovative technological solutions for African challenges will be showcased, such as the use of artificial intelligence, drones, and 3D printing.

On this trip, the President of the Republic will be accompanied by the First Lady, Gueta Chapo; the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Manuela dos Santos; the Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe; the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Estevão Pale; and the Minister of Health, Ussene Isse, along with senior officials from the Presidency and other state institutions.

TICAD, launched in 1993 by the Japanese government in partnership with the United Nations, the World Bank, and the African Union, is today one of the most important platforms for political and economic dialogue between Africa and Japan, promoting cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, energy, health, technology, and sustainable development.
