Firefox for iPhone Gains Built-In Ad Blocker Feature

Mozilla has introduced an ad-blocking feature to Firefox for iPhone, allowing users to block advertising during web browsing. The option, already available on desktop and Android versions of the browser, has now been extended to devices running Apple's iOS operating system.

The tool reduces the volume of advertising displayed on visited pages and is available to iPhone users running iOS 15 or later. On iPad, the minimum requirement is iPadOS 15. The feature has already been launched but is disabled by default. To activate it, users must open Firefox settings, navigate to the Browsing section, and select the Ad Blocker option.

According to Mozilla, the tool was developed in response to situations where advertising occupies a significant portion of the screen or disrupts the browsing experience. 'Advertising helps fund much of what we see on the open internet, supporting the publications, creators, and sites that people rely on,' the company explained. At the same time, Mozilla acknowledges that advertisements can, in certain situations, 'fill the screen and interrupt' what a user is doing.

Although the feature has been made available, Mozilla cautions that activation may not occur simultaneously across all devices. The rollout is being conducted gradually, meaning some users may need to wait before the option appears in their browser settings.

With the feature now available on iPhone, Mozilla is able to offer ad-blocking across all major versions of Firefox, bringing the iOS experience in line with what has long been available on desktop and Android devices.

According to the portal Notícias ao Minuto, the arrival of this option on iPhone follows a broader trend among browsers to give users greater control over their browsing experience. By allowing ads to be blocked directly within Firefox settings, Mozilla aims to reduce interruptions while browsing, while still leaving the choice of whether to use the blocker entirely in the hands of the user.
