Two Mozambican Startups Present At One Of The World’s Largest Technology Fairs

Two Mozambican startups – Dr. Moz and Law Technology Solutions – presented themselves at Web Summit 2022, one of the largest technology fairs in the world.

The event, which mobilized more than 70 thousand participants in this edition, took place until last November 4th, in Lisbon, Portugal, where two young Mozambicans went to present their innovations.

Dr. Moz, a pioneering telemedicine platform in Mozambique launched in May this year and developed by a Portuguese partner, presented its teleconsultation online innovation. “The goal is to serve as an information hub in the area of health and wellness,” said co-founder Sabina Ali, quoted by DW Africa. “Telemedicine, for example, allows you to instantly perform a basic consultation” online, she explained.

Already, Mozambican lawyer Ebrahim Bhikha has created Law Technology Solutions to develop apps that offer legal solutions for the Mozambican market. “One of the apps that is in the final stages and is expected to be launched next year. It is called Mobile Legis and it is about compilation of laws of Mozambique,” Bhikha told DW Africa.

“The app will bring together all the legislation previously published on paper in the Republic’s bulletins, making users’ lives easier when it comes to researching and gathering information,” he explained. The lawyer went to the Web Summit to gather experiences of technological solutions in this field and to understand what the market trend is in other countries with a view to improving the functionality of the apps.

On the third day, Web Summmit co-founder and CEO Paddy Cosgrave announced that the technology event will come to Africa in three to four years, in 2025 or 2026.

“We will go to Africa in 2025 or 2026,” said Paddy Cosgrave, who highlighted the return of the Web Summit to Lisbon in face-to-face form, “on a scale” that had never been generated before, as 70,000 attendees were surpassed.

Currently, the Web Summit holds four events worldwide: Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro (starting in 2023), Hong Kong (which has been canceled for next year), and Toronto. The next edition is scheduled for November 13-16, 2023, and registration is already open
