Vodacom M-Pesa has unveiled “Txova,” the platform’s first automatic credit service in Mozambique, an initiative that allows customers to complete transactions even when they do not have sufficient balance.
The announcement was made on Thursday, August 28, during a Vodacom M-Pesa presentation at the 60th edition of the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM), the country’s largest showcase of goods and services, which has been running since August 25.
With Txova, whenever there is not enough money to complete a transaction, the system automatically covers the shortfall up to a pre-approved limit. The borrowed amount, plus a daily fee, is deducted as soon as the customer receives funds in their M-Pesa account. The service can be triggered for amounts starting at 1 metical and requires no prior request.

According to Vodacom M-Pesa’s Executive Director for Financial Services, Zenaidine Gafar, this represents another step toward ensuring convenience for users. “Txova is a healthy product. As in banking, there are risks, but our priority is to provide options that allow customers to keep using the service and repay when they have the means,” he stated.
M-Pesa’s Managing Director, Sérgio Gomes, highlighted the product’s practical impact on the daily lives of Mozambicans. “Txova comes as a solution for those moments when you are short by 20, 50, or 100 meticais — whether to buy bread, fuel, or cooking gas. These are small amounts, but they make all the difference in a night, a weekend, or a particular day,” he said. Gomes stressed that the sustainability of the service is guaranteed by strategic partners such as FNB, which ensures liquidity, and the technology company Kuunda, responsible for risk management and client qualification.
With Txova, Vodacom M-Pesa strengthens its position as a leader in digital innovation within the financial sector, placing inclusion and convenience at the heart of its strategy.
“Txova” is a word in Changana meaning push, a metaphor for the financial boost the service provides in moments of greatest need. The service is already available and fully operational on the M-Pesa platform.
