Apple has confirmed 9 September as the date for its annual product showcase, an event expected to be dominated by the launch of the next iPhone generation and marked by the debut of John Ternus as the company’s new chief executive officer.
Among the headline announcements anticipated are the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable smartphone, which is expected to reach the market under the designation iPhone Ultra.
The event will be held at Apple Park, the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, and is set to represent a notable departure from previous years. Rather than introducing four main models, Apple is expected to present three devices in this generation, with the foldable model standing out as an entirely new product category for the manufacturer.
Beyond smartphones, Apple is expected to use the occasion to unveil new additions to its smartwatch lineup. Models anticipated include the Apple Watch Series 12 and a new version of the Apple Watch Ultra.
The company may also introduce a new Apple TV 4K and a second-generation HomePod mini. There is further speculation around a hybrid device that could combine the functionality of a HomePod and an iPad, enabling video calls and interaction with the Siri digital assistant, among other features.
According to news portal Notícias ao Minuto, the September event carries additional significance as it will mark Apple’s first official product presentation under John Ternus’s leadership. Currently head of Hardware Engineering, Ternus is expected to assume the CEO role at the start of September, succeeding Tim Cook, who will step down after 15 years at the helm of the company.
Aged 51, Ternus has been with Apple since 2001 and has served as senior vice president of Hardware Engineering since 2021. Over the course of his career, he has been involved in the development of products including the iPad, AirPods, iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch.
Apple has also highlighted Ternus’s contribution to the development of noise-cancellation technology for the AirPods, as well as his involvement in initiatives related to product durability, materials, design, and carbon footprint reduction.
The 9 September presentation is therefore set to mark not only the arrival of a new generation of hardware, but also the beginning of a new leadership era at Apple.
