Amazon Wants to Help Provide M-Pesa Services in Kenya

As Further Africa quotes, Safaricom, a Kenyan telecom company, is in talks to provide M-PESA services in partnership with Amazon’s e-commerce platform.

The move is said to be part of the Kenyan telecom company’s efforts to recover from a loss-making year.

“M-Pesa generates about a third of Safaricom’s revenues, and the East African giant sees the financial technology product as a key to future development. The carrier has already established alliances with Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd. and PayPal Holdings Inc.”

According to sources, this is not the first time these two powerhouses have teamed up, “as both collaborate on online services, and the Kenyan company runs Amazon’s cloud business.”
