AI and People: A Partnership for the Future

  • Marcel Saraiva • Head of Data & Analytics, FNB Mozambique

At FNB, we deeply value technical knowledge, but we know it only has real impact when shared. When knowledge circulates, it expands and becomes a force capable of inspiring teams, optimizing processes, and contributing to the development of communities.

This spirit guides our participation in events such as Moztech, Mozambique’s Technology Fair, which in its 2025 edition addressed crucial topics: digital transformation, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI). More than just an institutional presence, our participation reinforces our commitment to innovation and continuous development, promoting the sharing of knowledge that makes a difference for our employees, clients, and the market as a whole.

In the AI-dedicated space, we sought to demystify the concept and reflect on its practical application in the Mozambican business context, addressing current and essential issues. At its core, AI is the ability of computer systems to imitate processes associated with human intelligence: learning, perceiving, reasoning, and even communicating.

We discussed the reasons why AI matters so much to companies: it automates tasks, supports data-driven decision-making, and makes everything more efficient. We also explored how it has evolved, especially with models that combine language and real-world data to deliver more precise responses. Current advantages include cost reduction, faster data analysis, and quicker recommendations — all of which are fundamental in the business world. Finally, we emphasized the importance of using AI responsibly, with ethics, continuous training, and a clear strategic vision to ensure the technology makes a positive difference.

To make it easier to understand, we shared a simple analogy: AI is like a highly efficient intern — it learns quickly and executes well, but always needs guidance. It is not about replacing people, but about enhancing human capacity, allowing individuals to focus on what truly requires creativity and judgment. More than presenting a technology, we aimed to promote a different way of thinking. AI should not be seen as a threat, but as a strategic ally, provided it is understood, used responsibly, and applied to real objectives.

Participating in this panel, alongside representatives from companies such as PHC and E&Y, under the moderation of journalist Mustafa Leonardo, was an opportunity to share perspectives and enrich the national debate on innovation. Artificial intelligence can indeed have a profound impact in Mozambique, but that impact will be even greater when more people understand it, use it, and adapt it to their context. And it all begins with a simple, well-explained conversation made accessible to everyone.

At a time when the world is reinventing itself at great speed, shared knowledge is one of the most powerful ways to prepare teams and organizations for what comes next. That is why initiatives like this are not just about technology; they are, above all, about access, inclusion, and empowerment.
