Anthropic has announced a series of new capabilities for Claude, its AI assistant, including unified memory across conversations and Cowork sessions, as well as the ability to respond to and send emails directly through Gmail on a user’s behalf.
The memory integration means that information Claude retains during conversations is now also available when a user assigns tasks within Cowork. As a result, the assistant can draw on the context of previous projects, stated preferences, and prior discussions without requiring the user to repeat background information each time.
Anthropic says the feature is designed to improve workflow continuity. The company has also expanded user control over stored information. Users can review memories organised by topic, edit content, or delete entries through Claude’s settings, the company stated.
Among the new options is the ability to allow Claude to store information on topics deemed sensitive. This setting is disabled by default and must be activated by the user. Anthropic clarified that past conversations will not be retroactively added to memory once the function is enabled. Memory is available to users on free, Pro, and Max accounts and can be used across Claude’s iOS, macOS, and Android applications.
A separate update concerns Claude’s integration with Google Workspace. The chatbot can now respond to and send emails through Gmail directly on behalf of the user.
Previously, the integration allowed Claude to read information from Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive, but active management capabilities were more limited. Under the updated integration, a user can instruct the chatbot to reply to a message, with Claude drafting and dispatching the response directly. Users retain control over authorisation: approval is required before sending by default, though this setting can be changed. Anthropic also confirmed that Claude is able to forward emails.
On Team and Enterprise plans, administrators can define the conditions under which members may execute these actions without requiring individual approval for each one. The email-sending functionality is available on paid Claude plans, while the memory integration is also accessible to users on the free tier.
