Meta has introduced two new features on the WhatsApp messaging platform for users of Apple devices. One enables the full emoji catalogue in reactions via Apple Watch, while the other adds a new shortcut on iPhone to streamline message searches.
Until now, reactions on Apple Watch were limited to a fixed selection of six emojis. With the latest version of the application, WhatsApp will make the complete system emoji catalogue available, allowing users to choose from a significantly wider range of options.
To access the feature, users need only tap the emoji icon accompanied by a plus symbol, located in the upper right corner of the reactions panel. The action opens the full emoji keyboard available on the system.
According to WABetaInfo, a site specialising in tracking new WhatsApp features, the update is being rolled out gradually. As a result, some users may not yet have access to the new option. Meta did not include this change in the official update release notes.
A second innovation introduced by Meta relates to message search on iPhone. The application has added a search button directly on the conversation or channel screen, allowing users to locate messages without having to return to the home screen or open the contact menu.
The new button appears at the top of the screen when the user begins scrolling upward through the conversation. When returning to the most recent messages at the bottom of the chat, the shortcut disappears. Once search is activated, users need only enter a keyword to locate the desired content within the conversation history, making it faster to access specific messages.
As with the new emoji option on Apple Watch, the search feature is being made available to Apple device users on a gradual basis. The recommendation is to keep WhatsApp updated via the App Store in order to receive new features as they become available.
According to Meta, these updates arrive at a time when WhatsApp has been introducing several changes to the application. Last week, the expansion of the themes feature generated reactions among users, while the company also announced Meta One, a new subscription plan linked to Instagram and WhatsApp.
