The Mozambican Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), and current president of the Security Council for a month, Pedro Comissário, is leading a working mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Commissioner Pedro revealed on Wednesday (8), in New York, that the mission will assess the peace and security situation in the DRC, a country facing conflicts in the eastern zone, caused by the confrontation between government forces and the rebels of the March 23 Movement (M23).
“The occurrence of the conflicts tends to deteriorate the security situation, which has already forced the displacement of more than 60,000 people,” he advanced.
The Democratic Republic of Congo is situated in Central Africa and is currently facing serious conflicts in the east marked by alternating alliances between different armed groups, constant military operations, instability, insecurity and violence.
