State revenues from dividends on its holdings in companies and property rents grew by 37.8 per cent in the first half of 2024, reaching 7.7 billion meticais (122.6 million dollars). This performance represents a significant increase on the 5.6 billion meticais (89 million dollars) collected in the same period of 2023.
According to information from Lusa, the Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Plant was mainly responsible for this growth, contributing 5.3 billion meticais, which represents an increase of 45.7 per cent on the previous year.
Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) continues to be the second largest source of dividends, with a contribution of 1.2 billion meticais, reflecting a substantial increase of 571.7 per cent. Millennium bim, controlled by Portugal’s BCP, came third, with a 20 per cent increase, generating 759.5 million meticais.

In addition to dividends, revenue from concessions paid to the state also saw significant growth of 42 per cent year-on-year, reaching 2.8 billion meticals, which represented 1.7 per cent of total state revenue in the first half of 2024.
