Mozambique’s Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) revealed on Monday, August 14, that it has 4.5 billion meticals to cover the expenses of the voting process in the local elections next October.
“STAE has about 4.5 billion meticais for the local elections. The electoral bodies are counting on this amount to cover all expenses. We are already working at the national level and, at the moment, the training of provincial trainers of civic education agents is underway,” said STAE spokeswoman Regina Joyce during a press conference in Maputo.
According to the source, the amount will be used for the acquisition of vehicles for districts with local authorities, voting materials and electoral civic education and for staff training.
A total of 22 candidacies were submitted to Mozambique’s National Electoral Commission (CNE) for the October 11 municipal elections, with more than 8.7 million Mozambican voters registered for the ballot, below the initial projection of 9.8 million voters.
