Turnover Among Mega-Projects and SMEs Reduced 75.6% by 2021

Data from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, indicate that in 2021, the turnover between mega-projects and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), reduced in the order of 75.6%, having been registered only businesses valued at 7 877.24 million Meticais, against a turnover of 32 289.59 million Meticais, carried out in 2020.

According to the General State Account, published last week, the mega-projects contracted only 355 SMEs for the supply of goods and services, against 446 registered in 2020, which represents a reduction of about 20.4%.

Without advancing the reasons for this drop, it should be taken into account that the economic year 2021 was marked by the suspension of the projects of the French oil company TotalEnergies, in Cabo Delgado, due to terrorist attacks, as well as the withdrawal of the Brazilian mining company Vale, in coal exploration in Moatize.

In turn, in general, the report points out that the mega-projects recorded an overall loss of 56,623.24 million meticais in 2021, which represents a reduction of 55.5% in relation to the previous economic year.
