AME Mozambique and the Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (APME) signed a strategic partnership agreement today (14) in Maputo, with a view to ensuring greater involvement by Mozambican businesses in the 11th edition of the Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition (MMEC 2025), to be held on 7 and 8 May this year in Maputo.
According to the representative of AME Mozambique, Calisto Baquete, his organisation wants to strengthen the participation of more Mozambican companies in the conference, in order to promote their products and services and maximise the participation of local content in the mining and energy sector chain.
‘We’ve just signed the memorandum. The initial idea is to promote the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, creating a platform where they can exchange cards, talk to national and foreign investors, and we want to place these companies in the context of the exhibition,’ he said.
The Chairman of the Board of the Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Osvaldo Maute, sees it as an opportunity for Mozambicans to show the sector’s investors, who will be attending the conference, their potential to be an integral part of the industry.
‘We have the capacity, we are improving and at this conference we want to reaffirm that Mozambicans are ready not only to offer their products and services, but also to debate and contribute ideas that will help the country make more gains in this industry,’ he said.
He emphasised that one of the challenges facing micro and small businesses is the lack of certification, and so work is underway with partners to ensure that these firms are part of mega projects.
For this reason, Mozambican micro and small companies are not yet in a position to compete on an equal footing with foreign companies due to the issue of certification.
