The Mozambican authorities announced a package of 35 million meticals (485 thousand euros) to finance 500 small and medium enterprises affected by the insurgency in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
“In the area of industry and commerce, we have to highlight the creation of a 35 million metical line of credit to benefit 500 SMEs,” and the identification of “local micro-credit agencies to operationalize the process” is underway, said the director of the Provincial Economy and Finance Service, Sidónio Passo.
The main objective is the “recovery of the economic and financial activity of the province”.
According to the same source, the short-term strategies aim at the reopening of businesses after the attacks, including a bet on the agricultural sector, an activity that guarantees subsistence, as well as commercial potential.
