Mozal and Gapi-SI on Tuesday (18) handed over cheques worth 5.2 million meticais to 16 entrepreneurs from the districts of Boane and Matola, as part of the Nhluvuko Project, according to the Agência de Informação de Moçambique.
According to the agency, the event was attended by the governor of Maputo province, Manuel Tule, who explained that the project aims to “support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and improve local economic activity.” The governor stated that “although there is a priority for women and young people, the funding is open to any entrepreneur who meets the established criteria.”
Launched in 2023 and planned to last five years, the Nhluvuko Project has a budget of 77.4 million meticais and was initially designed to cover around 240 beneficiaries, a number that has already been surpassed.
According to the governor, “the financing must be accompanied by training in business management to ensure the correct use of resources,” while also warning of “the need to avoid misapplication.”
For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mozal, Samuel Samo Gudo, stated that “capacity building is a requirement for all beneficiaries. The company’s participation in the project responds to the social priorities identified in neighbouring communities.”
To date, the Nhluvuko Project has trained 256 entrepreneurs, financed 126 MSMEs and enabled the creation or maintenance of 433 jobs. About 64% of the funds have been allocated to women-led businesses, and the supported businesses have recorded an average 30% increase in revenue.
Mozal and Gapi-SI state that the financing now delivered “is part of a broader set of initiatives planned under the project, aimed at strengthening productive activity and business development in the districts covered.”
