MSMEs Demand More Transparency in Public Tenders at National Conference

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) continue to complain about barriers to entering the business market. According to the Institute for the Promotion of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (IPEME), the lack of transparency in public tenders is one of the biggest obstacles.

“There’s a lot of distortion in the information. On the one hand, you realise that if information about opportunities reaches one SME, it may not reach the others,” said Siro Álvaro, from IPEME.

According to the newspaper O País, another martyrdom for small entrepreneurs is related to the quality certification fees charged by the government. In order to change this situation, the sector met with the Executive this Friday, 2 August, at the sector’s second annual conference, to discuss strategies that could boost its growth and improve the business environment.

On the occasion, representing the Mozambican President, the Minister of Public Works, Carlos Mesquita, guaranteed that the government is committed to finding solutions.

“With these reforms, we want MSMEs to increase the contribution they have been making to our economy, so that the target of three million jobs set out in the government’s agenda materialises, as well as the resumption of economic growth by 7%.”
