The European Investment Bank (EIB), in coordination with Moza Banco, will make 10 million euros available to support small and medium-sized enterprises led by women in Mozambique.
In a statement distributed to the media, Moza Banco said that “the instrument will offer loans with favourable conditions, aimed at companies owned or led by women”.
Among the sectors, Moza Banco said, the loan, which is the result of the EIB Global initiative, will support companies linked to the manufacturing industry, agriculture and health.
“The economic emancipation of women is essential for a country’s development,” said EIB Vice-President Thomas Östros, quoted in the same press release.
Around 52 per cent of the Mozambican population, which is mostly rural, is made up of women, in a context marked by high levels of poverty, illiteracy and barriers to accessing finance.
