Prices of goods and services rose by 4.15% last month, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Prices of food, meals and beverages, clothing, and footwear were the categories with the highest increases.
After the stability in prices of goods and services recorded in May, prices rose again in June. According to the most recent data from the National Institute of Statistics, the increase was 4.5%.
This rise is largely explained by the worsening prices of food products by 9.38%, meals and beverages by 8.65%, as well as clothing and footwear, whose prices increased by 2.30%.
With these and other price increases recorded last month, the cost of living became more expensive, with the city of Tete registering the highest price increase at 6.31%, followed by Xai-Xai with 5.67%, and the province of Inhambane with 5.53%.
In cumulative terms, during the first half of the current year, all cities and provinces recorded a rise in the overall price level, with Tete leading the increases at 3%, followed by the province of Inhambane and Xai-Xai.
For the current year, the government forecasts a general price increase of 7%, thus meeting the objectives of the Bank of Mozambique to keep the inflation rate below double digits, i.e., below 10%.
