President Visits Ethiopia to Strengthen Political and Economic Cooperation

The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, begins a two-day official working visit to Ethiopia on Monday, April 27, where he aims to strengthen cooperation and discuss the political and economic situations in both countries.

According to a statement from the Office of the President, cited by Lusa, the head of state is traveling to that country at the invitation of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and will be accompanied by the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Lucas; National Defense, Cristóvão Chume; Economy, Basílio Muhate; and Agriculture, Environment, and Fisheries, Roberto Albino.

“The Mozambican leader’s visit to Ethiopia aims to strengthen existing friendly relations, assess the state of bilateral cooperation, and discuss the political and economic situation in both countries, on the African continent, and in the world at large,” the statement explained.

Last year, the governments of Ethiopia and Mozambique agreed to deepen their longstanding military cooperation, reaffirming their historical ties and shared security interests.

At the time, Defense Minister Cristóvão Chume held official talks with his counterpart, Aisha Mohamed, in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, on the sidelines of the 11th High-Level Forum on Defense and Security.
