The President of the Republic (PR), Daniel Chapo, begins a State visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this Monday, 12 January, ending on Wednesday, with the aim of “strengthening political, diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.”
According to a statement from the Office of the President, cited by Lusa, the visit seeks to “deepen political, diplomatic and economic relations” between Mozambique and the UAE, as well as to mobilise strategic investment to support the country’s development.
The visit is taking place at the invitation of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Maputo and Abu Dhabi, the capitals of Mozambique and the UAE, respectively.
During the visit, the Mozambican Head of State will take part in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026, as well as in the award ceremony of the “Zayed Sustainability Prize”, an international distinction that recognises projects and initiatives with an impact on sustainable development.
The Presidency stressed that the State visit represents “an opportunity to attract investment” aimed at implementing key development projects in Mozambique, in addition to boosting economic and trade relations between the two countries.
The official agenda also includes strengthening cooperation in the areas of politics and diplomacy, transport and logistics, mineral resources and energy, agriculture and the economy — sectors considered priorities for national development.
There is also provision for an exchange of views on issues of mutual interest at regional, continental and global levels, within the framework of reinforcing political dialogue and international coordination between Mozambique and the UAE.
Accompanying Daniel Chapo on the visit are the Minister of Economy, Basílio Muhate, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, and the Minister of the Presidency for Public Service Affairs, Ricardo Sengo.
