Parliament will resume plenary sessions next February 22, with 32 items on the agenda, including the debate on the proposal for the creation of the sovereign wealth fund and the annual information of the attorney general, announced yesterday, February 1, the sovereign body.
After the usual vacation period, the next plenary sessions will take place over three months, until May 31, said the spokesman for the Permanent Commission of Parliament, Alberto Matukutuku, at a press conference, without giving details of other items – in addition to the usual ones, such as question and answer sessions with the Government.
The creation of Mozambique’s sovereign wealth fund was approved by the Council of Ministers on November 29, 2022, with its capitalization to start with revenues from last year’s Coral Sul platform, which began exporting gas from the Rovuma basin off Cabo Delgado.
The Mozambican Parliament is dominated by the ruling Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (Frelimo), with a qualified majority of 184 deputies out of 250, followed by the main opposition party, Resistência Nacional Moçambicana (Renamo), with 60, and the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM) with six seats.
