The Assembly of the Republic and the Foundation for the Development of Competitiveness (FUNDEC) have begun negotiations for a partnership aimed at improving the quality of economic legislation in Mozambique, based on technical studies and empirical evidence.
According to a statement from the Foundation, the initiative comes at a time when the country is seeking to strengthen the business environment and align the legal framework with market demands and international integration.
Parliament Commits to Evidence-Based Legislation
During the meeting, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Margarida Talapa, highlighted the need to equip lawmakers and specialized committees with technical tools to enable the drafting of more effective laws. “We want to produce high-quality legislation grounded in real data that responds to the country’s development and the demands of the global market,” she stated.
She emphasized that cooperation with FUNDEC aims to ensure that economic legislation is more robust and aligned with the needs of the business sector.
FUNDEC Offers Technical Support and Training
The Foundation’s proposal is based on two main pillars: ongoing training for staff at the Assembly of the Republic and the production of economic studies and indicators to support the legislative process.
Among the planned initiatives is the launch of the Business Competitiveness Index, scheduled for May 8, which is intended to serve as a tool for analyzing market dynamics.
According to FUNDEC, these tools will improve the quality of policy decisions in areas such as the economy and trade.
The partnership also aims to align public policies with the promotion of local content, ensuring that investments and subsidies have a direct impact on the national economy.
The Portuguese ambassador to Mozambique, who attended the meeting, emphasized that a focus on competitiveness and entrepreneurship, especially among young people, is essential for the country’s development. “Conducting studies to inform the formulation of public policies is essential for guiding economic development,” he stated.
The expectation is that this cooperation will help accelerate reforms and make the business environment more attractive and sustainable for small and medium-sized enterprises.
