The Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP) and Timor-Leste will discuss budget surveillance and sovereign funds in Maputo, between 29 and 31 of this month, the Mozambican parliament announced today, 25 August, in a statement.
“This 4th high-level working group is held as part of the implementation of the programme for consolidation of economic governance and public financial management systems in the PALOP countries and Timor-Leste,” said the Mozambican parliament in a document sent to the media today.
The event, which will be opened by the President of Parliament, Esperança Bias, will be attended by the resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Mozambique, Narjess Saidane, and the political advisor of the European Union delegation in Mozambique, Stefan Simosas.
The meeting will also be attended in person and virtually by experts and academics in the areas of legislative budget oversight, economic governance and sovereign wealth funds.
Among other topics, the group will discuss legislative budget oversight and its impact on the quality of democracy and parliamentary systems.
