Nampula: Tax Authority Collects 21.3B Meticals in Revenue

The Mozambican Tax Authority (AT) in Nampula province has so far collected a total of 21.3 billion meticals in revenue, corresponding to 99.58% of the target for this year (21.4 billion).

“The performance has been positive and, in order to achieve these results, we have implemented a number of strategies such as intensifying tax examinations at terminal level, corrections of goods with values below the fair value of the export market, bank seizures and inspection of goods in circulation,” explained the provincial AT delegate, Muanjuma Sualé, quoted by the Mozambican Information Agency (AIM).

According to the source, strict control over the issuing of clearance certificates has boosted the payment of tax debts.

On the other hand, she pointed out that the AT had detected infringements in the import of around 500 vehicles, with irregularities such as under-invoicing, improper use of exemptions, false registration plates and smuggling, as well as mining operators evading the tax authorities.

“In its plans for next year, the AT plans to set up collection points in the town of Namialo, in the district of Meconta and in Nacala-a-Velha, as well as in the main markets in the cities of Nampula and Nacala,” he concluded.
