Mozambique Receives More Vaccines to Fight Covid-19

Mozambique receives today another 485 thousand doses of vaccine against Covid-19, as part of efforts to immunize more groups at risk of infection by the disease. The batch of vaccines will be received this morning by the Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário.

It is about 100 thousand doses donated by India and 385 thousand from the COVAX mechanism, according to guarantees from the Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago.

The new doses arrive in the country after the announcement, over the weekend, of 13 deaths of patients who were hospitalized due to the pandemic and the registration of 1528 new infections.

In this way, the country adds up to a cumulative 62,520 cases in one year of the disease and 693 deaths, a large part of which occurred in patients already suffering from other diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.

The deaths announced yesterday are all of Mozambican citizens between 26 and 69 years of age, seven women and six men, in the country’s capital, with the exception of one who was receiving medical care in Maputo province.

The Ministry of Health (MISAU) statements released on Saturday and yesterday also indicate the registration of 46 hospitalizations and 54 discharges, which means that the hospitalization centers currently have 160 patients fighting for their lives.

Despite the registration of 62.520 infections by Covid-19 since March of last year, at this moment there are only 15.402 active cases, once 46.426 infected people have already got rid of the disease.
