Mozambique received this Monday another 500,000 doses of the Chinese VeroCell vaccine against the new coronavirus, acquired by the country’s government, the Ministry of Health announced in a statement.
“These doses of vaccine will increase those received previously and ensure the normal course of the national mass vaccination campaign that began on 04 August,” said Lídia Cardoso, the deputy health minister, cited in the statement sent to the media.
According to the document, this is the third batch of vaccines that the country is receiving as a result of an acquisition by the Mozambican government, out of a total of 11 million doses expected to be received this semester.
“In total two million doses of vaccines have arrived in the country, acquired by the government,” the ministry said in the document.
In addition to immunisers acquired by the Mozambican government, the country has received over 1.9 million vaccines from donations, “as part of bilateral cooperation between Mozambique and other countries, as well as the Covax and Univax mechanisms,” the latter from the country’s private sector.
By the end of 2021, the authorities intend to inoculate more than half of the population.
