The economist and former Minister of Finance, Tomaz Salomão, believes that Mozambique should share any difficulties that arise in order to maintain the confidence of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Speaking to Rádio Moçambique, the former minister recalls that proactive attitudes are essential to ensure the confidence of any institution. As such, “if for some reason, we are having some difficulty or some problem, we must always have a pro-active attitude, that is, alert the partner. This doesn’t mean that we don’t want to bring the program to a successful conclusion, no. We have this intention to bring the program to a good end, but obviously in managing a country, and because of the unpredictable and exogenous factors, something can happen that leads us to some deviation.”
Tomaz Salomão also said that Mozambique cannot commit the failures of the past and lose the confidence of the IMF again.
