Mozambique is one of the nine African countries that will benefit from funding of 5.5 billion euros made available by the Italian government to support various development sectors, Radio Mozambique reported on Monday 30 January.
The news was announced by the Prime Minister of Italy, Gegorgia Meloni, after the Italy-Africa summit attended by the Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi.
Summarising the decisions taken at the meeting, Gegorgia Meloni pointed out that the nine countries should initially benefit from funding of around 5.5 billion euros, the equivalent of 37.4 billion meticais, contained in the Mattei plan for Africa, in the areas of physical and digital infrastructure, vocational training, health, water and energy, job promotion, climate and the fight against terrorism.
Among the nine countries, apart from Mozambique, are Kenya, Tunisia, Congo and Morocco. The Prime Minister of Italy said that the results of the projects that will be implemented in the nine African countries could be replicated in others, depending on the needs of each one.
