The Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, will take part in the summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP28, in Dubai from Friday 1 December.
According to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic, Nyusi will share Mozambique’s position on the energy transition and discuss ongoing experiences in the areas of climate change adaptation and mitigation.
During his presence in Dubai, the Mozambican statesman will chair two parallel events at the Mozambican pavilion that will address “Investment Opportunities in Mozambique’s Energy” and “Progress and Limitations in the Implementation of the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction and Adaptation to Climate Change”.
The Mozambican head of state will also chair a panel in the African pavilion on increasing funding for the “Early Warning and Action System for Multiple Threats” programme.
COP28 will see the first global assessment of eight years of climate action. Leaders from almost every country in the world are expected. In addition to the major issues, several thematic days and side events are scheduled, dedicated to topics such as health, finance, energy, urbanisation, transport, youth, decarbonisation, oceans, water and agriculture.
