Mozambican Government to Propose Raising Retirement Age to 65 for Civil Service

The Mozambican government will propose to the Mozambican Parliament to raise the retirement age in the civil service to 65 years against the current 60, said the Minister of State Administration and Public Service, quoted by daily newspaper Notícias.

Ana Comoane said that, with the change, both men and women will retire at 65, ending the current differentiation, in which men retire at 60 and women at 55.

Comoane advanced that the proposal will foresee exceptions, raising the retirement age to 70 in the judiciary, education, and health.

The executive’s intention will have to be submitted to the Portuguese Parliament for approval.

In 2021, the Assembly of the Republic set the retirement age at 60 years for all sectors of employment, leaving out state employees, who have their own statute and which may now be subject to review.
