Mozambican Economic Environment Indicator Rises 6.4 Points in Third Quarter

The Mozambican Business Environment Indicator (ICEE) rose from 91.2 to 97.6 points in the third quarter of this year, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced on Wednesday, 5 October.

“The ICEE recorded a slight increase in the third quarter” compared to the previous quarter and in line with the “recovery that began in the fourth quarter of 2021,” the INE bulletin reads. The “favourable behaviour” was influenced “by the prospects of rising employment and future demand”.

But not all sectors shared the optimism.

The favourable assessment of the economic climate was due to “the positive assessment in the trade and services sectors”, while entrepreneurs in the industrial production sector revised “their activities downwards” in comparison to the previous quarter.

The ICEE is part of the Bulletin of Confidence Indicators and Economic Climate, a publication on Mozambique’s economic climate, compiled based on a survey conducted by INE of companies in the non-financial sector.

“The study expresses the opinion of economic agents about the evolution and outlook for their activity, particularly on employment, demand, orders, prices, production, sales and limitations on activity,” the statistical authority explains.
