The Japanese embassy in Mozambique is to donate around US$4.2 million to support victims of the armed attacks in Cabo Delgado and in the centre of the country, the Japanese ambassador disclosed during a working visit to Nampula province this week. “We want to help internally displaced people.
Support will come through the five international organisations we provide for, and it will be for displaced people across the country (affected by terrorists and the Renamo Military junta), ”said ambassador Hajime Kimura, cited by Ikweli,
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Mozambique, Hajime Kimura, also revealed that Japanese support would see a water supply system installed in the district of Monapo, Nampula province.
Characterised by the ambassador as a small but swift-to-implement project, the sinking of a water borehole and five taps was estimated at a cost of around US$90,000, and will supply drinking water to more than 2,500 families in Titoculo, Monapo district.
Other projects in Nampula set to receive Japanese support include renovation at the port of Nacala, the construction of a gas hydroelectric plant, a high school and vocational training centres for young people.
The Secretary of State in Nampula province, Mety Gondola, expressed his pleasure at the opening of the water borehole and the other Japanese government interventions.
