Tete: Government Highlights Agriculture, Livestock and Mining as Strategic Areas to Attract Investments

The government of Tete has identified seven strategic areas to attract new investments from the European Union (EU) to the province of Central Mozambique: agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, mining, energy, hospitality and tourism, the latter to be explored in the reservoir of Cahora Bassa and in the Mágoe National Park.

The objective is that the entrepreneurs of Tete province can affirm themselves in the international market as an export chain for locally produced products, according to the local secretary of State, Elisa Zacarias, in the opening session of the Mozambique-EU Business Forum that took place last Friday, June 17th, in Tete city.

“Our province, being the third most populous in the country, is also attractive in the component of general trade for the provision of services to existing companies operating in the mining industry and for the consumption of the population,” said the governor, quoted by the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM).

For his part, the governor of Tete, Domingos Viola, invited the ambassadors of EU countries to mobilize their businessmen to invest in this region. “We are waiting for the businessmen from the EU countries in our beautiful and rich province of Tete. May our entrepreneurs feel encouraged to seek new partnerships with foreign capital,” he said.

The event, which was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, brought together more than 12 countries with diplomatic representation in Mozambique.

On the occasion, Verónica Macamo highlighted the decisive role of the private sector in the combination of various national efforts for the economic and social development of Mozambique, noting also that the government has been working hard for the implementation of various actions framed within the Package of Measures for Economic Acceleration (PAE), announced by the head of state, Filipe Nyusi, in August 2022. Therefore, “Mozambique has been investing in economic diplomacy, with a view to providing a new dynamic in mobilizing resources and investments for the country.

“It is in this context that we hold the sessions of the Political Dialogue in the provinces of Manica, Cabo Delgado, Gaza, and here in Tete, opening windows of investment and business opportunities for the business community,” she explained, and then underlined that “Tete is a province blessed with several and enormous potentialities.

Verónica Macamo encouraged the ambassadors to bring businessmen from their respective countries to take advantage of the business environment favorable to investment opportunities and potential in Tete.
