The Mozambican Railroad company Caminhos de Ferro Moçambique, CFM, has began the process of importing 90 carriages to minimise the deficit of transporting people and goods in the metropolitan region of Maputo, which includes the municipalities of Maputo, Matola and the towns of Boane and Marracuene is underway in the country.
It is an investment by Mozambican railroad company Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique, for an unspecified amount.
Armando Mbembele, administrator of the Maputo Metropolitan Agency, said that the delay was due to the situation of covid-19 in India, from where the carriages would be imported.
Mbembele was speaking on Saturday on the Linha Direta programme of this broadcasting station, which dealt with issues linked to the Covid-19 stage in Mozambique.
A little over 3,600 buses operate in the country’s capital, a number that does not meet the demand for transport in the Maputo metropolitan area.
Armando Mbembele, administrator at the Maputo Metropolitan Agency, said that within the next few months an additional batch of about a hundred buses would arrive in Maputo.
