Seminar in Mozambique marks first-ever step in fostering ties between Macao, Hengqin, and Portuguese-speaking African countries.
The Macao-Hengqin Investment Promotion Seminar was held on July 29 in Mozambique, marking a significant milestone in economic collaboration between Macao, Hengqin, and the Portuguese-speaking African nation.
Co-organised by Macao’s Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and the Mozambique Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEX Mozambique), this first-of-its-kind event aimed to foster business opportunities and strengthen economic ties between Chinese and African cities.
Over 120 entrepreneurs and business leaders from Mozambique, mainland China, and Macao attended the event, with over 50 business matching conversations facilitated on-site.
At the seminar, economic and commercial counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Mozambique Xu Weili emphasised the importance of leveraging the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for collaborative growth.
Macao-Hengqin entrepreneurs were also invited to share their experiences in running businesses between the two regions, in a bid to encourage opportunities for cooperation with Mozambique in the future.
This seminar is part of a series of joint investment promotion activities by IPIM and the Economic Development Bureau of the Cooperation Zone. It is the first event to promote the “Macao Platform + International Resources + Hengqin Space + Shared Results” model in Portuguese-speaking African countries since the implementation of the new Macao-Hengqin industrial development strategy.
