Just a few days ahead of the unveiling of Prime Minister Meloni highly anticipated Mattei plan, a commercial mission including WEBUILD, Italy’ largest conglomerate of engineering and construction has visited Maputo this week to probe major infrastructure investments.
The mission is said to meet with Italian companies operating in Mozambique as well as Government entities connected with key development projects, particularly in the energy sector. Named after Eni’s founder Enrico Mattei, Meloni’s initiative is aimed to encourage a holistic approach to dealing with the African continent.
According to Italy’s Ambassador to Mozambique Gianni Bardinni, “The historic relationship between Mozambique and Italy are among the strongest in Africa and the two countries are poised to enter a new era of commercial and entrepreneurial cooperation”
The specifics of the Mattei Plan are due to be revelled in a summit with African heads of state in Rome in the coming days including the presence of Mozambique’s president Filipe Nyusi. A management structure including politicians and state-controlled firms will be in charge of an Italian government plan to boost energy cooperation with African countries.
