Governments of Mozambique and the UAE Discuss Investment Protection

The Minister of Economy, Basílio Muhate, received the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Mozambique, Mansour Muhammad Aljuward, for a working meeting aimed at strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries.

According to a statement, during the meeting, the parties reviewed the current status of negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and discussed investment protection instruments. The organization of a Mozambique–UAE bilateral business forum was also addressed.

During the meeting, the leaders emphasized the importance of promoting business opportunities and fostering partnerships between the private sectors of both territories. “The meeting also assessed the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding in the tourism sector, aiming to increase technical cooperation in this strategically important area.”

Last year, the Government expressed interest in accelerating bilateral cooperation with the UAE, prioritizing investments in the industrial, agribusiness, energy, tourism, and logistics sectors, with particular focus on promoting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

In recent years, UAE investment in Mozambique has approached USD 5 billion (MZN 315 billion), consolidating the country as the main economic partner during this period. This information was provided in April by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fredson Bacar. “The trade balance with the UAE, although unfavorable for Mozambique, recorded significant growth in exports, valued at USD 639 million (MZN 40 billion), compared to USD 4.1 billion (MZN 262 billion) in imports,” Bacar stated, highlighting the “potential for growth and diversification of exports.”

Strengthening commercial and investment relations between Mozambique and the UAE is seen as a key strategy to boost economic diversification and promote sustainable development in the country.
