Global Gateway: PM ‘Invites’ European Entrepreneurs to Invest in Mozambique

Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane reiterated this Wednesday, November 22, the government’s invitation to European businesspeople to invest in the country, highlighting the Global Gateway Forum as a platform for promoting and increasing trade.

Speaking at the opening of the first edition of the Global Gateway Mozambique – European Union (EU) Investment Forum, a joint organization of the Mozambican government with the EU Delegation and the Association of European Chambers of Commerce (EUROCAM), Adriano Maleiane said that the event was the result of the commitments made at government level, within the framework of the political and economic dialogue aimed, among other things, at increasing and strengthening economic and trade relations between the country and the EU, with greater involvement and active participation of the private sector.

He therefore invited European entrepreneurs to continue investing in Mozambique, highlighting its great potential. “This forum is focused on the opportunities that can be capitalized on in our country, within the framework of the investment package of the Global Gateway strategy, and is committed to encouraging public and private investment in the fields of transport, agriculture, supply chains, green energy, modern telecommunications, education and research, which is in line with the priorities set out in the government’s Five-Year Programme 2020-2024,” he said.

For the Prime Minister, the aim of holding this first edition of the forum is to establish a privileged platform to promote and increase trade.

“This is a cooperative and strategic platform for training and capitalizing on trade and investment opportunities, which will strengthen relations between the Mozambican and European business sectors, in an approach that will allow us to continue to consolidate the diversification and competitiveness of our economy, which, in turn, will maximize the benefits of the process of economic integration, at SADC and African Union level,” he said.

Also in his speech, Adriano Maleiane whetted the appetite of European investors in the agricultural sector by saying that the country “has a climate that allows the practice of diversified agriculture, as well as the development of the benchmark value chain in this sector”.

With the theme “Creating Business Opportunities”, and taking place on November 22 and 23 with 14 discussion panels, the Global Gateway Forum is an event that brings together various stakeholders from the national and European public and private sectors, with the aim of exploring strategies for attracting quality investments, within the scope of the European Union’s Global Gateway Strategy, and boosting trade between Mozambique and the European market.
