The Dominican Republic (the second largest country in the Caribbean after Cuba) has set up an embassy in Mozambique for the first time, in the city of Maputo. In this regard, the head of state, Filipe Nyusi, encouraged entrepreneurs from that territory to invest in the country, emphasising that both nations share several aspects in common.
Speaking during the accreditation ceremony for the Dominican Republic’s first ambassador to Mozambique, Erika Ylonka, the Mozambican statesman expressed his satisfaction at being able to work and explore new parts of the world, emphasising that a fruitful relationship must be established.
‘This moment opens a new page in the history of our countries, and expresses a strong desire to enhance the excellent relations of friendship, solidarity and co-operation that unite us. It’s important to emphasise that both countries share a common identity in dance and gastronomy,’ he said.
Nyusi said that the country is available to receive entrepreneurs and investors to explore the areas of tourism, agriculture, mineral resources, telecommunications, infrastructure and transport, as they have great potential for increasing development.
‘As a first step towards improving and increasingly facilitating relations between the countries, we welcome with interest the proposals to negotiate the signing of agreements on political consultations and visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic passports,’ he concluded.
