Arab Business Leaders Show Direct Interest in Energy, Digital, and Mining Projects in Mozambique

A group of business leaders from the United Arab Emirates will begin a visit to Mozambique next week with the aim of exploring investment opportunities in the energy, digital transformation, and mining sectors, among other areas considered strategic for national economic development, according to Lusa.

The information was provided by the President of the Arab-Mozambican Chamber of Commerce (CCAM), Sérgio Matos, who revealed that the business mission’s agenda includes technical meetings with Mozambican authorities and site visits to priority projects. According to Matos, the group expressed particular interest in sectors considered to have high economic impact, such as ports, agriculture, and logistics infrastructure.

“The expected impact of these investments is transformative for the Mozambican economy, creating jobs, transferring technology, and positioning the country as a preferred destination for Arab capital on the continent,” said Sérgio Matos, emphasizing the importance of institutional support from the Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEX) to ensure predictability and efficiency in decision-making processes.

In the energy sector, the Arab business leaders were invited to invest in natural gas exploration projects, photovoltaic and floating solar energy, particularly in the central and northern provinces of the country. This proposal aligns with the national strategy to diversify the energy matrix and the goal of transforming Mozambique into a regional energy generation hub within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

In the mining sector, the delegation is expected to explore opportunities in gold refineries and support for mining cooperatives, focusing on local processing and formalization of production chains. In the digital sector, the focus is on the development of e-Government and the creation of an integrated platform to modernize state services.

In addition to these three priority sectors, the business mission also expressed interest in investments in healthcare, luxury tourism, ecotourism, and large-scale agricultural production, particularly in the provinces of Tete, Manica, Zambézia, and Sofala.

The visit follows high-level contacts established during the recent trip of President Daniel Chapo to the United Arab Emirates, where Mozambique’s potential was presented and formal invitations were extended for the entry of Arab capital into strategic projects.
