Instagram has updated its policies on AI-generated influencers, requiring such profiles to be identified more clearly through a new label that must appear alongside the account name and its posts.
In a post on its official blog, the platform stated that the objective is to help users more easily identify AI-generated profiles and distinguish them from accounts belonging to real people.
Previously, some of these accounts and their posts carried the designation ‘AI creator.’ Under the new policy, they will instead display a label reading ‘AI-generated profile.’
Instagram explained that accounts already showing the ‘AI creator’ tag will be able to confirm the switch to ‘AI-generated profile’ or remove the label altogether if it no longer applies to them.
According to Instagram, AI-generated influencer profiles that do not display the new label risk having their visibility reduced. Posts from such accounts will no longer be recommended to users who do not already follow them until the creator adds the required tag.
