Members of the government, academics and civil society met last Friday, June 2, in the city of Maputo, in a seminar to reflect on the Crescendo Azul Conference.
This is a platform for national, regional, continental, and international dialogue on the issues of the ocean and blue economy, an event that has already had two editions, the first in 2019, in the country’s capital, and the second in 2021, in the city of Vilankulo, Inhambane province.
According to Lídia Cardoso, Minister of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, the Crescendo Azul is an event with a transversal thematic nature that, both in the first and second edition, required a work of involvement, coordination, articulation and harmonization among different sectors and entities, including foreigners.
“The forum is held every two years, so this year should occur its 3rd edition, but because of the experience and reality of past events, with regard to organization and sustainability, we believe that a reflection, weighing all the benefits and challenges, is necessary, in an innovative perspective and more consistent with the domestic situation, regional and beyond, “said Lídia Cardoso, quoted by the newspaper news.
The governor hopes that the meeting will promote a frank and open reflection and result in suggestions that allow to make the best design, planning and organization of this forum, taking into account its sustainability.
The official added that the first edition of the Crescendo Azul Conference projected the country, turning it into the epicenter of the debate around the oceans, and the second edition attracted the attention of the world, becoming a real success.
“Mozambique is one of the pioneers in the conception and organization of events of this nature in Africa, therefore, we hope that the participants of this seminar contribute with their knowledge and intelligence and help to find the best ways for the Crescendo Azul flag to remain firm and imposing”, she highlighted.
The leader referred that the possibility of transforming the conference into a forum with a continental mandate and with shared responsibilities in Mozambique and the African Union is under consideration, so that its contribution to the global agenda of Oceans and the Blue Economy is maximized.
